BIOGRAPHY![]() I was born in 1974 in Banja Luka, northern Bosnia. Following in my father's footsteps, I studied engineering. Yet, I grew up with a burning interest in writing and drawing comic books. Though I have gone over to mainstream fiction, I still cannot help myself buying fancy graphic novels along with all kinds of other fiction. In June 1993, I arrived to Sweden on a refugee bus. For a year, I lived in three provisional refugee facilities. Then I moved into a regular neighbourhood, and started school all over again. I moved to Stockholm in 1997 to work as an assistant to a person with special needs, which is how I financed further studies in English literature and philosophy. In Spring 2004, I studied creative writing and received a scholarship for graduate studies in English literature at Stockholm University. I am currently taking my PhD. My first book, a collection of short stories and poetry [REFUGE]E was published in May 2005 by Konstfack University College of Arts Crafts and Design. I have also staged Michael Frayn's Copenhagen. I am also a proud member of the Swedish PEN, the organisation that fights for the rights of exiled writers. |
